Milan is eco-friendly: here 3 locations you cannot miss
On his NGS3, Luca Talotta took us on a sustainable trip through the streets of Milan. We have visited the largest apiary in Italy, a Hidden Farmhouse and a new neighbourhood which is still a work in progress and will also include an Arena. Let's discover the green side of Milan together!

APIARIO URBANO

CASCINA MERLATA UPTOWN PARK
Via Pier Paolo Pasolini 3

Here you can find 17 hives in which 1 million bees live and can pollinate 3 billion flowers every day. The Milan apiary is located inside the Cascina Merlata/UpTown's park, in the city's northwest area and in the San Faustino Garden. It is Italy's largest urban apiary.

This project aims to support urban biodiversity and was born from the collaboration between UpTown and Donna Moderna, with the technical support of Green Island – Alveari Urbani. It was desired to raise awareness among citizens on the fundamental role that bees play for biodiversity and for the well-being of the ecosystem and the environment.

The keywords of this location are sustainability and creativity: the hives were designed and created by local artists and artisans using recycled materials.

You cannot miss the Cascina Merlata / UpTown Park if you want to spend a day in contact with nature. This is an opportunity to get to know the world of bees up close and to observe over 10 000 wild animals, plants and different species of birds.

CASCINA NASCOSTA

PARCO SEMPIONE

Hidden in the Sempione Park, at the foot of the Branca Tower, Cascina Nascosta is a place obtained from the tool shed of the Green Sector of the Municipality of Milan and recovered by Legambiente Lombardia with the help of Arci Pareidolia, CIA - Italian Farmers and Alterazioni associations.

Cascina Nascosta, which was created to encourage sustainable habits, is a location where cultural projects related to food, sustainability, and cultural promotion are held. It is addressed to individual citizens and associations, companies, and producers. Cascina Nascosta also includes a restaurant, a farmer's market, a kindergarten, carpentry, and a bike workshop.

It will take you some time to find Cascina Nascosta: it is hidden in the park by two embankments. The place is certainly worth a visit for lunch, an aperitif, to buy organic agricultural products or to participate in activities and workshops dedicated to young and older people… or just to fix your bike!

The most convenient entrances to reach Cascina Nascosta are those of Arco Della Pace and Triennale.

QUARTIERE SANTA GIULIA

ROGOREDO

Milano Santa Giulia is an urban redevelopment project in the city's southeast area, between Rogoredo and Morsenchio.

This is a neighbourhood where everything is of low environmental impact: from the mobility to the green areas and the attention to biodiversity, from the energy efficiency of the buildings to the reduction of water consumption, from sustainability in the materials to safety.

Sustainability is the core of everything: from the new homes to the new 16,000-seat Arena, which will become an important location for music and sports events and where some competitions of the 2026 Winter Olympics will be held.

If you want to visit the new urban project still in progress, hosting residential areas, a large urban park, offices, squares and public spaces and a site dedicated to shopping and leisure, you cannot miss this address!
